The South Capitol Street Corridor

A Restored Grand Boulevard in the Tradition of Washington's Great Streets

South Capitol Street will become a grand symbolic gateway into the heart of Washington, host to a mixture of new uses and new jobs. Transformed into a great urban boulevard, the redesigned South Capitol Street will provide a gracious environment for a variety of transportation modes. With a new signature bridge replacing the aging Frederick Douglass Bridge, the reconfigured corridor will improve access to – and links between – the east and west banks of the Anacostia River.
