| Brookland/CUA Metro Station Small Area Plan
In fall 2006, the Office of Planning initiated a study of the neighborhoods surrounding the Brookland/CUA Metro station. Brookland is a culturally and economically diverse neighborhood, rich in historic assets. As a walkable community, residents of the Northeast neighborhood enjoy an abundance of open space, a bustling retail and commercial core and close proximity to the Metro station. Brookland has been rediscovered as a desirable place to live, work and play. As a result, the neighborhood is experiencing tremendous redevelopment pressure.
The Office of Planning seeks to create a redevelopment strategy for areas in and around the Metro station that will serve as a framework to guide future development. The planning effort, which began with a public kick-off meeting in late November 2006, will ultimately yield:
-
Analysis of existing conditions
-
Market analysis
-
Assessment of historic and cultural resources
-
Transportation analysis
-
Conceptual and sub-area plans
-
Recommendations and implementation strategy
