Steve Callcott
Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer

Steve Callcott is a senior preservation planner in the Historic Preservation Office (HPO) with over 15 years of project review experience, Mr. Callcott specializes in the review of larger rehabilitation and new construction projects downtown, in Sheridan-Kalorama, and in the 14th Street and U Street historic districts.  He is responsible for the review of projects sponsored by foreign governments and coordination with the FMBZA, and provides design review guidance to the Office of Planning in the review of Planned Unit Developments.  Mr. Callcott serves as the HPO’s primary contact for projects sponsored by the DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).  Prior to joining the HPO in 1992, he served for four years as associate director of the DC Preservation League, the city’s non-profit preservation advocacy organization.  Mr. Callcott has a BA in Architectural History from the University of North Carolina (1986) and an MA in Historic Preservation planning from Cornell University (1989).
